Kelly J. Larson, MA
Scholar, Author, Teacher, Transformational Consultant
Kelly is the director of the
Center for the Study of Yoga and
Health, owner of Breathe into Balance, and founder of the Power Yin Yoga
tradition. A highly experienced transformational consultant, Yoga and
meditation instructor, speaker, author, and scholar, she is regarded as one of the world’s top private Yoga instructors.
Kelly
integrates Yoga teachings from many master teachers around the globe,
and offers Yoga retreats, workshops, and private sessions internationally. Her Yoga certification was
completed in India, where she returns to lead retreats.
Kelly teaches Yoga as a transformational tool. She loves helping people
one-on-one, and despite her busy schedule continues to work globally
with as many clients as possible both in person and through virtual
consultations. Kelly resides in South Florida, and when not traveling also
teaches a few select weekly classes.
At the Center for the Study of Yoga and Health, Kelly and other scholars
evaluate cutting edge scientific research involving Yoga and health. The
center works tirelessly to find the best of these studies, test them,
and produce instructional programs for Yoga teachers to get their benefits
out into the world.
On a personal level, Breathe Into Balance is the
venue Kelly uses to do this through her network of elite private
teachers.
Kelly started Breathe Into Balance to create a model for how to bring
maximally effective, safe, and enjoyable private Yoga instruction to the
public. Since it exploded onto the scene it has trained Yoga
instructors around the world and partnered with best-of-class Yoga
instructors as full and part time affiliated teachers in many cities.
Breathe Into Balance broke new ground in the Yoga world by training
teachers to offer scientifically based and individually tailored
sessions that addressed clients’ unique physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual needs.
Power Yin Yoga is the expression of Kelly’s passion for transformation
in practice. Through it she helps clients and students understand that realization
comes from going deeper into the body rather than by escaping it.
“Power” refers to the depth and length of time postures are held. It’s a
physically intense practice, steeped in a deeply meditative experience.
“Yin” refers to the quality of softness and opening that emerges through
every breath to produce change. Power Yin Yoga combines these two
elements to find physical intensity in the depth and length of time
postures are held, all within in a trusting, restorative, and meditative
experience. It is a deeply satisfying practice that leaves you with a
uniquely alive and grateful feeling in your body, heart, and mind.
In the academic world, Kelly has studied transformation for a number of
years. She received her MA in Integral Transformation from
Prescott
College, and is a PhD candidate in the field of Transformative Studies
at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. She is
currently studying Sustainable Development at Harvard, as she bridges
her passions of personal and ecological sustainability. Kelly’s
doctoral research presents a new paradigm for a pervasive intelligence
that she recognizes through her years of Yoga practice.
Kelly has taught
Yoga and other transformational retreats, workshops, and classes
nationally and internationally for the last 10 years. She has taught at
the high school, college, and graduate school levels. Through her
teaching and life, she fuels her passions for supporting transformation,
connecting people with the natural world, and helping at-risk
teenagers. To Kelly all of this is about helping people come more alive.

The academic research literature contains over 200 scientific articles on Yoga covering a wide range of health conditions, with new ones appearing all the time.
Many of these studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of specific Yoga postures and series.
In addition to constantly combing the scientific literature, and communicating with other leading scholars and practitioners; my world-class instructors and I conduct extensive ongoing research to test published findings and continue to fine tune scientifically proven Yoga series for even greater effectiveness.
